  14. That garden is beautiful!

    The possum story is......

My mom was quite an "animal person", always rescuing this animal or that. We lived rurally, and she would drive my sister and me to school each day. One day she noticed a possum that had been hit by a car. When she came back in the afternoon, she noticed it was still alive, albeit, injured of course. She didn't want to leave it there to die a slow death, so she threw it in the car and brought it home. We nursed it back to health, but since it was now blind in one eye, it only walked in circles (weird, yes!). We couldn't turn it loose, so my dad built it a hutch and we kept it. It wasn't exactly tame, but it knew we were the source of its food. We could pick it up, or carry it by it's yucky tail, but you had to be careful when you handed it food, because it couldn't judge distance and would get your fingers, too. It had very sharp teeth! For whatever reason, it always liked my dad best. And there you have it, the possum story!
