Today Max and I decided to do another whirlwind Saturday and first stop was
David Adickes Sculpturworx. It's really bizarre to drive off the freeway to this small road and then wham, all these cool presidents heads and often other sculptures are just sitting around and you can just walk right up to any of them! Max even met a little friend there but he went back inside one of the artist galleries before we could snap their pix together.

What the heck?! This is weird Ma! But at least pups are allowed HERE! I like artist humans! |
|
It's great to visit the place and get a sneak preview of great stuff like this! I love the colorfulness of it too! It will apparently be placed on the I-10 feeder road East of the Patterson bridge on the South side of I-10. We can say we knew it when :) - love me some David Adickes! |
|
Here's some of the President's heads but I didn't see Obama here (but I know he's been made). Seeing these up close is pretty amazing! |
|
This was a piece inside one of the galleries but not sure who the artist is - sorry I can't give better information yet but I loved the colors. |
|
The Beatles are just hanging out behind the parking area. (David Adickes) |
|
Hey Ma...HELLLOOOOO.....why are you taking photos of THEM when helllloooo...there's ME! |
|
And yet STILL ...click click...no Max?? Well, if you'd EVER pick your head up and let Ma take a pix that would be nice! |
|
Ma? MA...I thought the people wanted to see ME????
Well, your head buried in the grass isn't exactly attractive Max! Plus you have to be still cuz Ma didn't charge her good camera's battery that takes the good pix so she can't shoot action shots! But it should be ready in about 10 minutes Max! Ready for our next stop ok?! PFT! URRRR! Ma's!
|
|
Hey Ma...look who I found playing hide and go seek?! |
|
Ok, STILL no picture of yours truly but at least Ma let me climb the fire escape lookin' stairs with her to take this photo until Ma saw the No Trespassing sign at the top level of the stairs and quietly, quickly left the staircase area. |
|
Hey Ma....look! Headless Presidents!!! Hummm... |
|
Hey Ma....where's that blue dress?? |
|
Is this my new car Ma?? I can just see Max cruising around in this can't you?! |
|
Hey Ma....there's a pretend cow in these people's front yard!! Back in 2001 the CowParade came to Houston and 325 hand painted cows were on display around Houston with fundraising benefiting the Texas Children's Hospital.
|
|
Well, I have to say it's nice to look at art and pee at the same time! Think we need to speak to the local Bark Parks about getting us pups some art! |
|
The Virtuoso sculpture by David Adickes was commissioned by real estate tycoon, Joe Russo, is approximately 36 feet tall also softly plays classical music 24 hours a day in front of the Lyric Center in downtown Houston. It's my favorite sculpture piece in Houston and I love that it plays music.

Ma didn't let me out of the car to take the giant cello pix cause she wasn't supposed to jump out of her car and hurry to take the pix in the middle of the street but I was her "look out" to make sure no cars or cops busted her! I was a bit too tired and thirsty though to remember my lookout duties so instead decided if we got busted that I'd give the cops the cute look! See my new fold-up water bowl? Ma can shove it in her pocket or her purse...cuz it's important to keep her FAVORITE child hydrated! It was on clearance at PetSmart! Yea - score one for Max! Where are we going next Ma??? Where to??! Come on tell me!! It's Saturday...I call it MAXDAY! Ok, Max...Ma's other camera battery it charged now so let's go to Discover Green Park in Downtown since we are already so close by! But let's not post anymore pixs today ok Max? Ok, Ma...deal! Plus we won't be having all these pixs to show the humans later once it gets hot outside cuz it will be way too hot for me to go outside for long right Ma?! Right Max! |
How neat and so cool they allow pups there is a smaller sculpture park by the new World Trade Center that I brought weasley too
ReplyDeleteUrban hounds
This is just like a warehouse area not a park or anything so it's wonderful to usually have the place to yourself to just wander;)
DeleteWhat a total cool place to spend the day. Glad to hear that it's dog friendly too!
ReplyDeleteMaggie
It's so cool and is just like a bunch of galleries in a warehouse district area and this is where they put the works until they are moved to their final destination
DeleteAre all the President's heads there? We never stopped, but saw it from the highway. It looked like there were just four. We should have stopped and explored.
ReplyDeleteNo. Not all of them - they have moved I think 3 by the I-10 toward downtown exit and these are just sitting in the field behind the gallery's parking lot until they are permanently homed.
DeleteAwwww Maxi - that last photo of you is so darn cute - those sculptures were really cool - but they should do one of you !
ReplyDeleteWe COMPLETELY agree! That would rock to have a giant Max!!!!
DeleteLove the statues, they are fantastic! What a cool place to spend a day!
ReplyDeleteDip Bridge and Elliot x
It's just cool to see them too before they are in their permanent place...we always wonder where we might see them again :)
DeleteWhat a cool place and we thought it kind of fun. You are just so cute Max the POPO would not be able to resist. Love the cow in the front garden. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Well, Ma is pretty good about getting the POPO to not write the ticket but with me there...we're good to go right?!
DeleteOh my! You guys have been traveling a lot! My parents keep travelling, without me!:(
ReplyDeleteWithout the Bunkman??? Isn't that like a felony or something?
DeleteI love the beatles, how cool. And yes, those are huge sculptures. That guy is pretty busy.
ReplyDeleteMe too - can't go wring with the Beatles! I'm curious where they will end up
DeleteWow. You take Max to some really cool places. Glad to hear that was a dog friendly zone. Everything is bigger in Texas except Max :)
ReplyDeleteHa, I cracked up reading that...except Max! But ssshhh, don't tell Max...he doesn't know...he's pretty sure it must be that I keep photoshopping his photos to small and then there is the Master Illusionist in the Parks that make him "appear" small :)
DeleteOh we loved seeing all your pictures..they were cool....we would like that cow in our yard..ehheheh.
ReplyDeletestella rose
I loved seeing the cows when they were here! So much creativity!!

ReplyDeleteKirby's welcome to come hang out with us anytime!!!
DeleteThose are some cool sculptures...hope they aren't just hidden there forever and they actually get put on display somewhere!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they will but some have been there a while...think it's for a President's Park in Pearland, Texas nearby but I'm not positive.
