Temptation Was Too Much

Ok, so after seeing the James Turrell, Skyspace, Twilight Epiphany at Rice University last weekend, that has lights at night, the temptation was too great...we had to see it for ourselves. I have to say that I was a little bummed as there was no accompanying music, but it was pretty zen and cool to view.  My son soon discovered, it was more pretty to see from outside of it! No pets allowed inside, but next time since now we know what we're doing we could take Max outside to see it! There is also a Shepherd School of Music there that performs free and we met a lovely gentleman named Enoch that showed us around and was there for religious studies before he'll head back to Nigeria where he is from. He was also kind enough to show us this pretty piece by Jaume Plensa, Mirror but I thought it was really odd that this morning I was catching up on my blog reading and What Remains Now has posted another piece very similar by the same Artist! Weird!
My son took this pix by actually laying in the floor of the Skyspace and looking up, the blue is the actual sky!

That same fountain from yesterday's post with the pretty lights now :)

I think my son was right...very nice from the outside and all of these are his shots

A nearby building with cool light on top too! Kinda a trippy night :)

Jaume Plensa, Mirror (about 12 feet high)

My son took this one so you can see the detail

Of course we can't forget about the STAR...Max NEVER digs in the yard but he did today...rather frantically!

This was sorta bittersweet...Max had dug up an old bone that my old pup Zaya had buried long ago. Sorta felt like Zaya was there with us for a minute and offering to share with Max :). Stranger still that Max would dig for it as he doesn't really care for this kind of bone particularly :)

Max has his own unique way of posing eating bones :) - Gotta love Max!
Have a beautiful today full of bright lights and hidden surprises!

FitDog Friday with Edith and Jesse

Hello again and we are still sharing our Saturday with you! Today we'll tell you about our visit to the Edith Moore Bird Sanctuary.  Max was cooled off from his trip to Discovery Green Park and we ate a quick bite together, then it was off to a bummer of a stop (tell you about that disappointment later), then here! Max loves walking on trails and being nosey, (kinda like his Ma), so I knew he'd love it!

Me and my bridges

Max was carefully guarding me to be sure to protect me from killer birds!

Anyone know what kind of bird this is?

Love all the trees!

Don't worry Ma...Super Max here will protect you from this scary frog!

Ok, I soooo suck..missed the BEST photo of all...well, should have been a video cuz I'd have one first place in a contest!! Max got brave and wandered into the brush just a little and all the sudden I hear him let out this LOUD (for Max), growl and jump STRAIGHT up like a FOOT in the air and flew past me so fast I let go of his leash...then when I saw what was soooo terrifying I was laughing hysterically, by myself, in the woods! A twig branch attached itself to Max's harness and scared the daylights out of him when it "followed him"! I am laughing now again just thinking about Max's face and reaction!

We sat on a little bench here and regained poor little Max's composure :) with lots of petting and talking to calm him down from the crazed, maniac twig branch!

I have no clue and WHAT kind of bird this is but there are LOTS of them and that seems how they all hang around but they were too fast to get a clear shot of...anyone know? We called them the bat birds!

Better make sure no demon twig branches jump out and attack me! Ma's on her own!!!

I'm wishing...I'm wishing....for the one I love.... (anyone know where that comes from?)

Interesting trivia...Edith was born in 1884, Jesse was born in 1894 (craddle robber eh?:)), they divorced in 1957 (odd for those times I thought), and Edith died only 1 year after willing the home and 17.5 acres to the Houston Audubon Society and Jesse lived until the age of 99 as passed in 1993.

This little pond was made around 1930!

So peaceful here!

Ma....why do we have to leave?! Come on Ma!!! Fine then...I'm not gonna talk to you the whole ride home!!! What? Treats in your pocket? Ok, let's go Ma...we are outta here! :)
Can't forget..it's also FitDog Friday...gotta stay (or GET ha!) Fit for FitDog Friday! With Peggy's Pet Place and SlimDoggy BUT WAIT...there's more!!!! Go pop over to see what else Peggy's Place is cooking up...read about K9Kamp!!
